Lynda Johnson: Listen
Made By Hand
(Lynda Johnson, Stephanie Johnson)
00000The first verse of this song was sung by Stephanie Johnson when she was ten years old...produced by Clive Romney...instruments by Enoch Train...mixed and mastered by Barry Gibbons.
00000The idea for Made By Hand came from reading a fairytale as told by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, called "The Handmade Life".
00000I find that so many ideas for music come from books. I once attended a songwriter's conference in Colorado, and Tia Sillers was there. She's the composer who wrote I Hope You Dance. She also co-wrote There's Your Trouble and Blue on Black, among many other great songs. And I found out that she does the same thing I do - she reads everything she can get her hands on, simply because she loves books so much, and because they give her ideas for songs. She writes her ideas on little pieces of paper, and throws them all in a big bowl that she sorts through later.
00000My husband will confirm that there are often notes of mine all over our house; on scraps of paper, receipts, shopping lists...
00000But I digress. : ) I loved singing this song with my little girl, who is all grown up now, beautiful inside and out.
MADE BY HAND
Wise one
lived a trying life
joyful
like a child inside
tell me
the secret in your smile
she turns
and talks with me awhile
and she said,
Child you need to understand
we live a life that's made by hand
with tenderness
and care stitched in
the beauty's in the love we give
you can color it with shades of grey
or paint yourself a lovely day
you can mend a tattered memory
with love and time
prayer and peace
Young one
tears are flowing now
can I
comfort you somehow
believe
joy will overcome
because
of a wiser one
Child you need to understand
we live a life that's made by hand
with tenderness
and care stitched in
the beauty's in the love we give
you can color it with shades of grey
or paint yourself a lovely day
you can mend a tattered memory
with love and time
prayer and peace
You can mend a tattered memory
with love and time
prayer and peace
